ENGINEERING CUSTOM PALLETS

Our flexible packaging customer in Canada had a high speed fully automated roll fed flexo printing system. The pallet holding the freshly extruded "tubes" on the conveyor going into the system was a nailed wood platform made of 4 x 4's and other boards that were cracking, splintering, and very heavy. This was posing maintenance, housekeeping, quality, and safety problem. Stratis combined molded in steel reinforcement with tight tolerances where needed in molding to provide a one piece pallet that held all the weight, flowed in the conveyor and automatic roll pickup system and lasted for years and years. This was a collaborative effort between Stratis Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and the customer's manufacturing groups and plant engineering.

For years, roll converting customers would look at our cradle style roll pallets and ask "can you stack them?". We needed a prospect with a need exceeding 1000 pallets to make this investment. When we found them the discussion ensued and we shared a dream how we could stack very large heavy rolls AND unstack them easily with a forklift as a substitute for pallet racks and a true "rackless" high density storage and shipping system for rolls.

BRINGING IDEAS TO LIFE

The raspberry and blackberry growing, processing, and quick-freeze industry has very high hygiene requirements. The berries are hand or machine picked in fields under wet dirty conditions and the wood pallets they used were susceptible to mold, fungus, insects and vermin infestation along with bacteria and other germ hazards. Stratis Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing coordinated with a couple of the top berry processors in the world to develop two distinctly different berry pallets to operate in their unique automation, quick freeze systems, typical pallet rack systems, fit on their trucks, and be clean and washable unlike any wood or other plastic they had tried before. PLUS the pallets were designed to safely contain the special trays they use in the picking and shipping process. This resulted in the development of our Tray-lok™ patent.
